Act with Integrity: ClearSlide Values

At ClearSlide, we ACT WITH INTEGRITY.

The late Maya Angelou once said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” This is in part how we at ClearSlide act with integrity. We do our best, and when we fail, we learn and improve how we operate.

A key element in this equation is feedback — asking for and giving feedback across our entire organization. The feedback game is not for the faint of heart. A person needs stamina to deliver valuable, timely feedback, courage to address difficult issues with respect and honesty, and fortitude to take it on the chin and keep it moving. It may not be the easy thing to do, but it is the right thing to do.

As we kick off our new fiscal year this month, one of the top priorities for the company is doubling down on our quest to give and receive constructive, meaningful feedback. If we’re not getting it, we should ask for it. If we’re getting it, we don’t take it personally. It’s about the work. It’s about doing it better. Feedback is a gift, and the honorable thing to do is share it.

During a one-on-one exercise in a leadership workshop we held this week, I was fortunate to partner with a colleague who happens to be a lover of receiving constructive feedback. He thrives on being given opportunities to improve his skills and work product. He told his manager that, when it comes to feedback, not to bother with the good stuff — instead focus on what he is doing that needs improvement so that he can do his part to take ClearSlide to the next level.

With this important practice in place, we are setting ourselves up to continue building a company and a product that embody as much integrity as we do in our daily work. We will find that we are better equipped to grow and maintain strength of structure and character. We will discover that though we each have our individual jobs to do, we are all integral pieces of the whole.
